Itinerary of  The Islamic Heritage Tour

Day 1 – Arrival to Istanbul

After passport and visa procedure, you will be taken to your hotel in the old city of Istanbul.  There will be time to relax and rest before meeting the guide in the evening for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (Dinner)

Day 2 – Istanbul

Today we will visit the Topkapi Palace, it was first built by Mehmet the Conqueror in 1453 and was the home of the sultan until the 19th century. St. Sophia was built by Roman Emperor Justinian and was completed in 537 A.D.  It was the largest Christian church in the world for more than 1000 years and the Ottomans converted it in to a mosque.  The Blue Mosque was commissioned by Sultan Ahmet in 1603 and was constructed with the deliberate intention of rivaling the St. Sophia. Day 3 – Istanbul

We will visit the Rustem Pasha Mosque with its exceptional tiles, the spice market and the Grand Bazaar in the old city. We will visit the Eyup Sultan Tomb and the Mosque, he was one of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (SAV). Overnight is in Istanbul. (Breakfast and Dinner)

Day 4 – Bursa

Today we will then drive to Bursa former capital of the Ottoman Empire. We will visit the spectacular Green Mosque and the Green Mausoleum. We will also visit the historical the Koza (Cocoon) Han, which is famous for its silk products and the Great Mosque of Bursa. Overnight is in Bursa. (Breakfast and Dinner)

Day 5 – Ankara

Today we will drive to Ankara to visit Haci Bayram Veli tomb and the mosque. He was one of the great Sufi poet and the founder of the Bayrami Sufi order. We will also visit and see the Roman Temple of Augustus. We will also pay a visit to the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the father of modern Turkey. Overnight is in Ankara. (Breakfast and Dinner)

Day 6 – Cappadocia

Morning departure for a four hour drive to Cappadocia. We will visit the town of Hacıbektaş. Haji Bektash Veli, the founder of the Bektashi order, lived in the area in the 14th century and is commemorated by the town’s current name and in an annual festival. His tomb is located near the center of town in his former monastery, now a museum, and is a site of pilgrimage for Alevi and Bektashi from throughout Turkey

An optional Whirling Dervishes performance is held in a 13th century Caravansary. Overnight is in Cappadocia. (Breakfast and Dinner)

Day 7 – Cappadocia

An optional balloon tour can be done in the morning, flying over volcanic valleys and rock formations (fairy chimneys). After breakfast, we visit Goreme, Pasabagi, Uchisar, Kaymakli or Ozkonak underground city. While in Cappadocia, we will enjoy the unique landscapes of wind and rain eroded volcanic formations. Carved directly into stone, Cappadocia’s amazing subterranean cities include ancient underground churches and cities hand-hewn from solid rock by early Christians. We will visit a local pottery workshop and see traditional Hittite ways of shaping red clay. Overnight is in Cappadocia. (Breakfast and Dinner)

Day 8 – Konya

Today we will travel from Cappadocia to Konya. We visit Mevlana Mausoleum and Museum, explore the city of Konya which was a capital of Anatolian Seljuk. The Mevlâna Museum, located in Konya, is the mausoleum of Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, a Persian Sufi mystic also known as Mevlâna or Rumi. It was also the dervish lodge (tekke) of the Mevlevi order, better known as the whirling dervishes. Overnight is in Konya. (Breakfast and Dinner)

Day 9 – Pamukkale (One of the Natural Wonders of the World) – Hierapolis

Today, we will drive to Pamukkale. We will visit the snow-like travertine of calcium for which Pamukkale is famous. Pamukkale is one of the natural wonders of the world with strikingly beautiful mineral springs clinging to the hillsides that will amaze you. Overnight is in Pamukkale. (Breakfast and Dinner)

Day 10 – Izmir– Ephesus

Today we will visits the incredible city of Ephesus and its colossal Greco-Roman Theater where St. Paul preached. This particular theatre is still used for performances today. The Marble Road, the Celsus Library and the Temple of Diana are just a few of the sites we will visit. We will also visit the house where St. Mary lived her final days. (After the crucifixion of Jesus, St. John brought her to Ephesus). Overnight is in Izmir. (Breakfast and Dinner)

Day 11 – Istanbul

Today we will fly back to Istanbul for your connecting flight. (Breakfast)
